FISHING OR CATFISHING?

Work as a private detective during lockdowns in Hawaii has been pretty sparse. Even when I have been asked to do work, I have had to be very careful to find out if the request is "essential". Any non-essential travel for months was subject to a citation.

However one of the things that I have been asked is to do a background check of people met through social media who are just "too good to be true". No surprise to any of you reading this that the digital evidence did not match the information shared.

Lockdowns have made many people more vulnerable to online scams. This FBI public announcement from last year is an excellent reminder of the dangers of getting sucked in by the CATFISH.
